Life without COVID-19 measures is going very well so far in the Anglophone South School District, according to the superintendent.
Zoë Watson said so far this week, she is hearing from schools that people have been kind in respecting a person’s choice to wear a mask or not.
Watson said some students and teachers are still wearing them.
“I think a lot of staff are. I know when I am going into schools this week, I am wearing mine for a while because I feel more comfortable doing that,” Watson said.
Extra supply teachers hired to cover absences expected due to COVID isolation will stay on until April 1st.
Student absenteeism is sitting around 19 to 20 per cent, which is higher than normal, but Watson said they are pleased to have 80 per cent in class.
‘It is a bit higher than pre-COVID, but we know people who are ill or if they are having symptoms, they are staying home,” Watson said.
The district’s supply of KN95 masks of rapid test kits will be handed out as needed.
