After Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke in the House of Commons yesterday, many MP’s were met with sanctions barring them from entering Russia.
Among those, Cape Breton Canso MP Mike Kelloway says he feels that it speaks to how the Western world is responding.
“I was one of those MP’s on the list, there were many others as well, on the government side, on the Opposition side”, Kelloway said. “I think that’s indicative of kind of where we are. The Western countries, I think, have come together quicker than Putin thought of and we’ll continue to work together.”
Kelloway added that Zelensky’s speech left everyone thinking about what can be done.
“I know each MP took away and has been thinking non stop since, what’s been done, what can be done.” He said.
Kelloway did speak to what Canada has already done to aid Ukraine.
“Our government has put forward, I think, a suite of offerings in terms of huge humanitarian efforts financially, lethal force acquisitions and also sanctions.” Kelloway said.
This all came after Canada announced further sanctions against Russian officials who are close to Vladimir Putin.
