A new development is planned for Saint Andrews.
At the corner of Mowat Drive and Bar Road, the Van Horne Garden Homes will feature 25 two-bedroom, two-bathrooms, one-level rental units, and are roughly 1,356 sq. ft. in size.
“We want to give it a community feels with a lot of green space to maintain the tree outline because we feel there’s a demand for that type of design,” said Charlie Bourgeois, president of Van Horne Garden Homes.
Bourgeois and his wife purchased the property in 2004.
“We’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to develop a community, so finally we feel the time is right, as it is a priority of the Town of Saint Andrews to offer more housing options.”
Bourgeois has taken the proposal to the town’s council and has applied for rezoning.
“The town has been extremely supportive, we’ve been working with the town for several months, and the plan we submitted has received support, but typically a rezoning process could take a couple of months … but at this point, there haven’t been any obstacles.”
The demographic Bourgeois is looking to fill the apartments are mature adults looking to downsize.
The homes have been designed from the ground up with convenience, practicality, quality, style, and energy efficiency in mind.
Everything will be maintained and taken care of, including grounds and snow removal.
The development is named after Sir William Van Horne, who played a major role in the economic development and support of the region.
“He’s a very historic figure, not just in Saint Andrews, but across Canada because he was responsible for connecting Canada with the railway system,” said Bourgeois.
The development also involves Hughes Surveys of Saint John, Moncton-based Steve Davies of Local Development Group, and Tim Lyons with Atlantic Commercial Brokerage.
