St. Thomas University in Fredericton will put a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy in place for students, faculty and staff.
President and Vice-Chancellor Dawn Russell issued a statement on Thursday.
She notes the provincial government’s plan to put a mandatory vaccination program in place for public sector employees and a testing program for unvaccinated employees.
Russell said they were in contact with Public Health on Thursday and it was strongly recommending post-secondary institutions implement a program that includes mandatory vaccinations and testing similar to government.
She said the school recognizes they need to do more to “strengthen our health and safety measures” so St. Thomas will be developing and implementing a policy of mandatory vaccinations.
More information will be provided in the coming days.
The school will keep a mandatory mask policy and continue with distancing, cleaning and disinfecting along with other measures.
Students who have not yet had a first or second vaccine are being “strongly encouraged to book an appointment through Vitalité or Horizon Health Clinics or a pharmacy”.
Students who live outside of New Brunswick should seek information on vaccination in the province where they live.
During Welcome Week, students can also access COVID-19 vaccination clinics offered at the UNB Campus Pharmacy (29 Dineen Drive in the UNB Bookstore)
St. Thomas students can get a Pfizer and Moderna vaccination through the Campus Pharmacy between 10 a.m and 5 p.m. on September 7th, 9th and 10th.
