Shannon McLaughlin is putting her marketing and PR training to work in promoting the opening of her baby and toddler clothing boutique, Fox + Cove in Quispamsis.
After graduating from Mount Saint Vincent University, McLaughlin’s corporate marketing and PR career took her across Canada for fourteen years, from Vancouver to Calgary to Ottawa, until she decided to return to New Brunswick a few years ago.
The store, which will officially open next month, began as a creative outlet when she was on maternity leave and grew into her first independent passion project.
When she was shopping for baby clothes for her own baby, McLaughlin says she was bombarded with questions from fellow parents about where she found the brands and where they could get them.
“There really are kind of limited options when it comes to baby and toddler clothing here locally,” says McLaughlin.

The lack of options led her to buy bulk pieces of clothing she liked, to see if there was further interest in the Maritimes community.
“I wanted other moms to be able to relate and associate with the brand and be really transparent and open about the types of things that I’ll be featuring or offering,” she said. “I didn’t want to spend or charge a ton of money for cute little trendy pieces – I wanted to find things that had versatility, getting the most multi-seasonal use, especially in our Canadian climate.”
The store is named after McLaughlin’s children, son Fox and daughter Cove, reflecting the East and West coasts where they were born
McLaughlin purchases her stock from Europe, Asia and the US, and is in talks with Canadian brands to carry their clothes.
Fox + Cove’s Instagram page is regularly posting clothing summaries and giveaways, and its website will launch in September and offer shipping Canada-wide and local pickup.
“I hope that the community is excited that they have another place to shop, especially for moms to be able to do it right from their homes,” said McLaughlin.
