No-swimming advisories remain in effect at two local beaches due to high bacteria levels.
Advisories were put in place at New River Beach and Oak Bay provincial parks on Thursday.
Public Health says routine water testing on Wednesday showed bacterial levels above health limits.
Follow-up testing took place on Friday and the advisories were continued on Saturday.
“Swimming in waters with bacteria levels above the Guideline Values does not mean that you will get sick, but it increases the risk. Levels can fluctuate through the day so there is always a small risk of exposure,” Public Health says on its website.
“Each person should use the information available to make choices that are comfortable for them.”
Officials say poor water quality can be caused by heavy rains, high winds and waves, and lots of swimmers.
