Construction is underway to build facilities at Parlee Beach which will make it more wheelchair-accessible.
The provincial government has announced $400,000 for a new comfort station with accessible washrooms, indoor showers, sheltered outdoor showers and family changing rooms.
The playground has a nautical theme with a play boat and swinging ride shaped like a raft and will be accessible to all children.
“It’s exciting to see one of New Brunswick’s most popular beaches become more accessible,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace.
“These new features will help to ensure that everyone can have a fun and relaxing day at the beach with their friends and family.”
The beach will also be installing an accessible mat across the sand for easier access to the water for wheelchairs, strollers and those with mobility issues.
The work is being done under a partnership with Ability New Brunswick.
“Ability NB is pleased to partner with Parlee Beach on accessibility improvements to its beach and recreation areas to ensure all New Brunswickers can play in and visit our province’s incredible outdoor spaces,” said Ability New Brunswick Executive Director Haley Flaro.
“Parlee Beach continues to be a leader in recognizing the social and economic benefits of accessible recreation and tourism.”
