Positive COVID-19 cases have been confirmed at another school in the Fredericton area, according to school district officials.
The Anglophone West School District announced Monday evening that there are two confirmed cases at Priestman Street School in Fredericton.
“We will move to distance learning and there is a requirement for self-isolation for all students and staff and their families for the next 72 hours,” superintendent David McTimoney said in a post on the district’s website.
A letter sent to families from Dr. Kimberley Barker, the regional medical officer of health, said students and staff, as well as their household members, must self-isolate until 11:59 p.m. Thursday.
Students and staff at the school are also encouraged to get tested for COVID-19.
The school will be closed Tuesday for an operational day and teachers will connect with families to share plans for distance learning on Wednesday.
On Saturday, the district announced a confirmed case at Connaught Street School in Fredericton.
Public Health has told staff and their families to self-isolate and to get tested as soon as possible. Students and their families are asked to self-monitor for symptoms for the next 14 days.
As with Priestman Street School, Connaught Street School will be closed Tuesday for an operational day and students will learn online starting Wednesday.
There have been at least nine confirmed cases at six Fredericton-area schools since May 12: Connaught Street School, Fredericton Christian Academy, Leo Hayes High School, Nashwaaksis Middle School, New Maryland Elementary School, and Priestman Street School.
