The province’s top doctor met with the mayors and MLAs of New Brunswick Health Zone 1 (Moncton region) on Monday.
Chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell told the leaders during an in-person meeting in Moncton that the region is at a critical stage of the pandemic.
Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold says it has become more important than ever to follow public health guidelines.
She reiterated what Dr. Russell has been saying all along – wash your hands, wear a mask, keep your distance and stay put as much as you possibly can.
“We are all frustrated, tired, worried… and many people in our community are struggling to keep their livelihoods intact. It is a difficult time for many,” noted Arnold at a city council meeting on Monday.
“We are at a tipping point. If we don’t get things together right away, our public health system and our ability to contact trace will be severely impacted.”
Arnold acknowledges it’s been a long process but she adds the faster we work together to do the right thing, the faster we will get beyond the pandemic.
