New Brunswick residents affected by recent flooding may qualify for disaster relief funds.
The province has established a Disaster Financial Assistance program for individuals, small businesses, not-for-profits, and municipalities which were damaged after heavy rain in late November led to flooding in parts of the province.
It’s estimated more than 200 millimeters of rain fell between November 30 and December 2.
The new provincial program will help owners recoup losses on certain uninsurable damages.
Private residences are able to calim up to $160,000 for structural repairs, while small businesses and not-for-profits may be eligible for up to $500,000.
Deductibles will apply for homeowners and small businesses, though it will be waived for social development clients. Those experiencing ‘severe financial hardship’ are also available to request the deductible be waived, according to a release from the provincial government.
Residents can register their damages online or by calling 1-888-298-8555. The province will mail applicants a Disaster Financial Assistance package.
The deadline to apply is March 31.
