Over the last few weeks, I’ve been sharing my incredible adventures with Bay Ferries. From whale watching in Tiverton to exploring Yarmouth and Acadian Shores, there are so many possibilities when you cross the Bay of Fundy on the Fundy Rose. Not only are you saving yourself hours of driving, you’re travelling in comfort and style with Bay Ferries.
After an incredible time exploring Yarmouth and Acadian Shores, we drove back up the scenic route to Digby. If you have time, I always recommend the scenic route, because you never know what you’ll find! Would you be able to buy fresh dulse from someone’s driveway taking the highway? Not a chance. But we found just that taking the scenic route. In classic Maritime fashion, it was an unmanned stand with a cooler full of dulse and a tin for your change.
Once we got to Digby, we explored the beautiful downtown area, full of great shops and incredible restaurants and cafes, including The Sea Biscuit Cafe & Eatery, which offers delicious sandwiches, salads, and soups, as well as desserts that will satisfy any sweet tooth.
We definitely to walk off those delicious desserts, so we continued exploring downtown Digby, where I ran into a familiar looking lighthouse. This lighthouse, originally from Digby, was in Saint John for almost three decades on the waterfront across from Market Square at the former Coast Guard site. In 2012 it was returned to Digby after a delegation of 30 residents and 230 pounds of Digby scallops successfully convinced Saint John to return the lighthouse to it’s original town.
After exploring downtown Digby, we made our way to the famous Digby Pines Golf Resort and Spa to unwind for the night. We were hungry from all that walking around, so we headed down to the Spokes Bistro for one of the best meals I’ve ever had! Duck confit egg rolls, a “sea”-cuterie platter, freshly caught, sustainable trout, local chicken skewers with local vegetables in a cream sauce. What’s not to like? Chef Dale and his team at the Pines are always cooking up incredible and creative dishes! Their menu is constantly changing with what’s locally in season, so you know every bite you take is a fresh as it gets!
We also had dessert, but if I’m going to be honest, I forgot to take a picture. I had the tiramisu, which is my all time favourite dessert, so you can understand that I did not want to wait for anything or anyone to eat it!
The next day we explored everything the the Digby Pines has to offer, from the spa, the pool, and of course, their world class golf course! Did you know you can book special packages with the Pines and Bay Ferries? Whether it’s a golf trip with your friends, a relaxing spa weekend, or a culinary delight, you can book return walk-on passage on the Fundy Rose, full shuttle service courtesy of Digby Pines! check out all the packages they have to offer and book today!
If you’re looking to explore around Digby, I highly recommend taking the short drive to Bear River, a charming village full of great art galleries, wineries and cideries, along a tidal river off the Bay of Fundy.
We stopped at Bear River Winery, a former dairy farm, turned winery. Their wine making process is gravity fed, significantly reducing their carbon footprint!
A short drive down the road is Casa Nova, which makes wine, cider, and cello.
After a few days of exploring across Yarmouth and Acadian Shore and Digby, it time to head back home on Fundy Rose, or as they call it in Digby, the Saint John Ferry! Once on board, all you need to do is relax, which after a few days on the move, is much, MUCH better than having to do the long drive back home. In just a little over two hours, you’r in Saint John and just minutes, not hours, away from home! Bay Ferries makes exploring the Atlantic bubble so easy! Book your voyage now and go and explore!
