New Brunswick is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Just ask the 3 million visitors we welcome each year!
There is beauty all around us in this province. And if you’re looking for adventure, look no further than our own backyard. You might be surprised by what you discover
I’d been to St. Martins lots of times; to eat at the Caves Restaurant, explore the Sea Caves by foot, or just a scenic drive through the village. But never did I expect to explore the caves by kayak. That’s the type of thing only tourists do, right?
No way! All of the adventure, beauty and excitement New Brunswick has to offer is available to us all. Even if you’ve always lived here, there are a myriad of new experiences awaiting you!
We began our journey with delicious coffee drinks from Shipyard Cafe on Main Street, St. Martins. They serve a full menu of caffeinated beverages, using beans roasted by the Whitney Coffee Company and an array of organic teas from Bueteaful. I went with a classic latte, and it was just the fuel I needed to prepare me for the journey ahead. I paired it with the BEST blueberry scone I’ve ever had, but ate it so quickly that I forgot to take a picture. It had a light crisp on the outside, soft and delicious on the inside, with a beautiful bake on the bottom. Trust me, it was amazing.
While we waited for the highest tides in the world to rise, we explored the glorious Fundy Trail Parkway
(Zach shares our experience at the Parkway here)
After taking in some of the most spectacular views New Brunswick has to offer, we returned to the village to eat lunch at The Caves Restaurant
Their menu offers so many mouth-watering options that we decided to order up a variety of dishes to share.
Everything we ordered was delicious, and we left with happy bellies. I wish I were eating lunch there right now.
After our tasty meal, we met up with our guide, Nick, from Red Rock Adventures
I’d never been in a kayak before, let alone in one on the Bay of Fundy! So I was excited, but also a little bit nervous. But our expert guide, Nick, put my nerves at ease quickly. It was clear he holds a wealth of experience, and after only a few minutes with him, I knew I was in good hands. Armed with everything we needed to know about our journey ahead, we set out in our kayaks and my nerves were immediately taken over by pure exhilaration!
As we made our way through the brackish water and into the bay, we passed brightly coloured fishing boats and received a history lesson on the area from Nick. He really knows his stuff. As we got furthur into the bay the fog became thick, which made the experience thrilling and mysterious. Eventually we got through the fog and to the caves. The view was nothing short of breathtaking! It were as though we’d travelled by kayak to some magical part of the world. And in a way we had! Seeing the St. Martins caves by kayak is spectacular and I already can’t wait to do it again!
There’s still lots of summer left. If you’re up for an incredible kayaking adventure, Red Rock Adventure will take you there! (Thanks Nick!) Or for something more relaxed, drive through the Fundy Trail Parkway and stop for lunch at The Caves Restaurant. The view of the caves from the restaurant is pretty great too.
