Women entrepreneurs whose businesses are being hit by COVID-19 are getting a boost from the federal government.
Mary Ng is the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, and announced an extra $15-million is going to organizations that help women business owners.
“It will give women tailored support through things like business workshops, mentorship, and skills training to help adapt to a digital marketplace,” Ng said Saturday.
She notes the pandemic has hit women’s businesses hardest, “severely affecting” sectors like retail, hospitality and food services that Ng says feature more women entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, in light of major layoffs coming for Air Canada, federal officials say they will continue to support workers and Canadian companies.
Around half of all COVID-19 cases in Canada have now recovered.
