The victims of the Nova Scotia shooting spree will be remembered during an upcoming event in Greater Saint John.
Randall Goodwin is organizing a memorial vehicle procession to take place between Saint John and Hampton.
The Saint John man even designed a 12-inch memorial sticker to place on each of the vehicles taking part.
Goodwin said he wanted to find a way for people to come together during a time of physical distancing.
“It just seemed like people were kinda lost around the area here and they felt like they wanted to do something besides just social media posts,” said Goodwin.
A gunman shot and killed 22 people during his 13-hour rampage through northern Nova Scotia on April 18 and 19. He was shot and killed by police at a gas station in Enfield.
Among the victims was RCMP Const. Heidi Stevenson, who spent 23 years with the national police force.
Goodwin shared his idea on several social media groups and said he received a lot of positive messages from people in the Saint John region and even in Nova Scotia, including from some family members of the victims.
The procession was set to take place Saturday morning, but the forecast of rain forced Goodwin to postpone it to a yet-to-be-announced date.
When the event does take place, he hopes it will help bring closure for residents who may be struggling to comprehend what happened.
“Everybody looks for a sense of support in any which way and when you see a whole lot of united things happening, it’s a sense of comfort there in some way, however they receive it,” said Goodwin.
