Saint John is opening up some of its recreational facilities just in time for the Victoria Day long weekend.
In a news release Thursday, the city announced six facilities will open to the public on Saturday.
They include the Rainbow Park playground, Rockwood Park playground, Forest Hills playground, Dominion Park playground and basketball courts, Shamrock Park tennis courts and horse shoe pits, and Station One Skate Park.
In order to meet provincial COVID-19 guidelines, hand sanitizer will be available at each location and the city will sanitize playground equipment twice a day.
Also on Saturday, four trails in Rockwood Park will become one-way traffic only to promote physical distancing. They include Lily Lake Loop, Clean Air Trail, Fisher Lakes Loop and Harrigan Lake Loop.
The trails will be marked with signage so users know which way they should be travelling.
“We know citizens would like even more recreation facilities available for use. Following orders and guidelines for any opened facilities however requires resources that must be budgeted in challenging financial times,” said the release.
City officials ask residents to remain out of playgrounds when staff are performing maintenance and to stay away from other recreational facilities which are closed.
“Keeping recreational facilities open and safe for citizens that respect provincial orders and health guidelines in times like these is a shared responsibility. Everyone must do their part to ensure we can keep these facilities open.”
