The premier says New Brunswick’s state of emergency order is being extended by another two weeks.
Blaine Higgs says it will be extended again as required to help protect the health and safety of residents.
Meantime, a timeline has not been given as to when provincial borders may reopen to non-essential traffic.
Higgs says it’s a necessary precaution against COVID-19 since we are now in Phase 2 of reopening our economy.
“We recognize our vulnerability to COVID-19 is heightened through this process. Eventually, we will be in a position to loosen our border restrictions … but we are not there yet.”
He says an average of 39 vehicles are being turned away each day at provincial borders.
More workers are still needed to fill jobs in New Brunswick’s seafood and agriculture industries and the premier continues to urge people to apply.
The province held a virtual job fair on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
Data shows that 1,833 job-seekers participated in the event which featured more than 50 employers.
