Despite two new COVID-19 cases in New Brunswick this week, Premier Blaine Higgs says this is not going affect the province’s economic recovery plan.
Higgs says businesses should be prepared for the new normal as the reopening begins.
“I’m asking you to plan and prepare and determine how you can operate within the public health guidelines of physical distancing, cleanliness and hand washing. As part of this, more people will be returning to work,” he says.
Higgs plans to unveil more details about the province’s economic recovery plan before the end of this week.
For those who remain unemployed, Higgs encourages people to apply for jobs in agriculture and the fishery.
A ban on temporary foreign workers in the province means 600 jobs are currently available in those industries.
Meantime, Higgs says border restrictions have been helping to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Since March 25, he says five individuals have been turned away at airports and put back on planes.
Over the past 10 days, an average of 38 vehicles have been turned away daily at land borders.
Higgs adds the borders have been a concern for many and the all-party cabinet committee will be discussing the matter to see if any changes need to be made.
