Police in Fredericton are investigating the city’s second homicide of the year.
Officers were called to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
Police say a man was dropped off at the hospital after being shot and had died from his injuries.
“The vehicle that was involved in dropping the victim off at the hospital was located and stopped by police a short time later. Several people were taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing,” said police in a news release Saturday evening.
Investigators said they believe the incident was not random and that the victim was targeted.
Officers are currently processing a scene on Wilsey Road and have brought in the RCMP K-9 unit to help, they said.
“Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have information about this homicide,” said police.
The homicide comes just over two weeks after a man was found dead in Wilmot Park on the city’s south side on April 15.
Investigators said the victim, who was later identified as 31-year-old Clark Ernest Greene, suffered significant injuries and they do not believe a firearm was involved.
Anyone with information on either homicide is asked to call the Fredericton Police Force at 506-460-2300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
