New Brunswick’s premier reiterating a familiar message about the province’s cautious approach to reopening the economy.
On Friday, Blaine Higgs was asked about forming a “bubble friendship” with our neighbours in P.E.I. who have a similar positive situation when it comes to COVID-19.
This caused the premier to smile.
“You know, is there a possibility coming down the road in the summer in the July/August timeframe? I guess we always like to think there is a possibility but, we are very cautious about our borders and we’ll remain so,” Higgs said.
Premier Higgs said he’s been discussing the COVID-19 situation with P.E.I. Premier Dennis King.
He said the two provincial public health authorities will likely discuss the possibility in the future of opening their borders to each other.
As for nearly two weeks without a new case of COVID-19, the premier said all New Brunswickers should be proud of our accomplishments
He added as we spend time in our two-household bubble this weekend, we must remain vigilant.
“Going almost two weeks without a case of COVID-19, some would say we don’t have to worry about the virus. This is simply not true. We are still vulnerable,” Higgs said.
The premier said we are surrounded by COVID-19 and even though everyone is doing their best to keep New Brunswickers safe, we are still very much at risk.
