The 35th annual Atlantic Balloon Fiesta in Sussex has been grounded due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Committee members made the announcement in a post on their Facebook page earlier this week.
After much deliberation and consideration, the Atlantic Balloon Fiesta Committee has come to the conclusion that our only option is to suspend our 35th annual Atlantic Balloon Fiesta until 2021,” said the post.
“Following direct guidance from the Government of New Brunswick, Town of Sussex and all stakeholders this was truly our only option at this point.”
Last week, the province announced all large gatherings such as festivals and concerts are prohibited through the end of the year.
Organizers said they plan to welcome balloon enthusiasts back to Sussex next year. The Atlantic Balloon Fiesta was scheduled to take place from Sept. 11 to 13.
Other festivals and concerts have also pulled the plug for this year, including Harvest Jazz & Blues in Fredericton and Area 506 in Saint John.
