Grade 12 students in New Brunswick can get an early start on their post-secondary education.
The province and its four publicly-funded universities have teamed up to offer distance learning.
Students on track to graduate in June can enrol in intersession courses this spring and summer to gain credits toward their degree starting in the fall.
“Even though schools across the province are closed, we remain committed to helping students continue their education,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Dominic Cardy in a news release Monday. “If students have the opportunity to excel, that should be encouraged.”
The University of New Brunswick, St. Thomas University, Mount Allison University and the Universit de Moncton are taking part in the partnership.
Courses will be offered online with no physical attendance required and standard intersession fees will apply.
“Intersession courses allow our students to smoothly transition from high school to university over the summer months,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Trevor Holder in the release.
Students will still have to complete the public-school year as currently being offered under the continuity of learning plan.
