No new cases of COVID-19 are being reported in New Brunswick for a ninth day in a row.
The number of confirmed cases remains at 118.
The number of active cases is six of which three remain hospitalized and 112 people have recovered.
But chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell says we are nowhere near being ready to declare victory over the virus.
“Success is not merely the absence of new cases. Success is knowing how many cases we really have, how widespread the disease has become, and that we are able to manage it so that our health care system is not overwhelmed. To be able to do that, we have to continue to test individuals,” she says.
Russell indicated that testing for COVID-19 may be expanded this week.
She urges anyone who might have the virus to come forward and not to be afraid of social stigma.
Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, sore throat, running nose, and headache and you must call 811 to seek testing.
Russell also stressed the importance of continuing appropriate hygiene practices, maintaining physical distance from others and strongly recommended masks when physical distancing or other barriers are not possible.
