Canada’s top doctor is focusing on vaccinations amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
In her daily update Saturday, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam said even once a COVID-19 vaccine is available, we could see outbreaks of other diseases if we don’t keep up with our regular vaccinations.
“[Once] people are coming out of their homes, and less physical distancing would potentially mean there could be outbreaks. And so this is why we’re asking people to set up appointments, find out how you can get vaccinated even during this time, because this is an essential service,” Dr. Tam explained.
She said it’s especially relevant as National Immunization Week began Saturday, adding you should always keep your family’s vaccinations up-to-date.
Canada has a total of 44,353 cases of COVID-19 and 2,350 deaths due to complications from the virus.
Federal officials note they are seeing more cases in First Nation communities, for a total of 95.
