Easter was different for New Brunswickers this year who were told to obey the state of emergency and avoid family gatherings or religious ceremonies.
Premier Blaine Higgs says it’s still not clear when the restrictions could be eased or even lifted.
“I think it’s very, very difficult to put a date on it. I’ll be working closely with public health and officials across the province understanding where can we move a little bit, how can we contain anything within a given region of the province.”
Higgs believes most people obeyed the rules over the long weekend.
But he adds we will know for sure by the end of this month.
Over the last week, 17 tickets have been issued with 26 in total under the emergency order.
Fines range from $292.50 to $10,200.
“Issuing fines is a last resort,” said Higgs. “Our goal is compliance, not punishment. I hope no one else puts himself or herself in a position where officers have to issue a ticket.”
