New Brunswick health officials have announced two new cases of COVID-19 in the province on Easter Sunday.
The province has now registered 114 total cases of the virus. To date, 70 of those individuals have recovered.
Both of the new cases are in the Saint John region. One of the new cases is an individual aged 60-69, and the other is between the ages of 70-79.
Premier Blaine Higgs issued a statement about not celebrating the Easter holiday as usual way during the pandemic.
“We understand how difficult this can be and I sincerely thank New Brunswickers for their resilience and their creativity during these difficult times,” Higgs said. “By taking these actions we will reduce the spread of COVID-19. We need to keep doing everything we can to fight this pandemic. This is not the time to relax restrictions, despite how challenging they are for each of us. This is the time to stay the course.”
Of the 114 cases in the province, 102 are related to travel or close contact of someone who had traveled. Seven cases are a result of community transmission, while five cases are still being investigated for possible connections to previous cases.
