Public health officials in Canada are out with some stark numbers of how badly Canada is being hit by the COVID-19 virus.
Chief Public Health Officer of Canada and head of the Public Health Agency of Canada, Dr. Theresa Tam says over the course of the pandemic we could see 11,000 to 22,000 deaths and that is the best-case scenario.
“The resolve and the level of effort of all Canadians from our health care workers on the frontlines, to public health authorities, to all Canadians who are practicing physical-distancing will ultimately determine whether we can remain in this best-case scenario and determine whether our health care system can cope,” Tam said.
Short term projections are predicting 22,00 to 31,00 cases of COVID-19 in Canada by next week.
“These stark numbers tell us that we must do everything we can now to remain in that best-case scenario with strong epidemic control,” Tam noted.
