Shipments of masks and other personal protective equipment are on the way.
That’s the promise from the Minister of Public Services and Procurement, Anita Anand.
“We are expecting more deliveries from China in the days to come,” says Anand, “…the reality is that we are operating in a highly competitive global environment where international logistics are challenging.”
She explains that Ottawa is working closely with partners around the world to make sure those on the front lines here in Canada are protected.
When the equipment does get to Canada, Anand tells us that they’ve signed a deal with Amazon Canada to get it delivered.
“Amazon will use its Canadian distribution network, which includes Canada Post and Purolator, to manage the distribution of personal protective equipment and supplies purchased by the government.”
Anand says that Amazon will be providing the services to Canadians at cost, which means they won’t make any profit whatsoever.
The Minister adds that Ottawa will not rest until all the supplies needed are in Canada, and in the hands of those on the front line fighting against COVID-19.
