More than 966,000 people applied for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit the first day it was available.
That’s from Jean-Yves Duclos, the president of the Treasury Board.
Duclos says that those number represents what they usually receive for regular employment insurance over a six-month span.
In terms of EI, he says they’ve received more than 3.6 million applications since March 15 for emergency benefits, and have since been able to process more than three million of them.
Duclos adds that his hat is off to everyone at Service Canada and the Canada Revenue Agency, who have made all this possible.
Those born January through March are to apply for the CERB on Mondays, April through June on Tuesdays, July to September on Wednesdays and those born in October, November or December on Thursdays.
