A dietitian is offering tips on how to shop more efficiently during the pandemic.
Most people are trying to make fewer trips to the store in light of social distancing rules.
Stephanie Gagnon says her main tip is meal planning and writing out a grocery list for at least a week’s worth of meals.
She says keeping a pantry stocked with staple items is important because you never know what could happen.
“Canned goods are always great to have on hand. Pastas or beans, lentils, canned tomatoes, pre-made pasta sauces. Those are typically inexpensive and will last in your pantries for quite some time,” said Gagnon.
Gagnon says vegetables and fruits also have a longer shelf life.
“I’m thinking potatoes, beets, carrots, onions, cauliflower, even apples and oranges for some fruit that can keep for a while. Frozen is also a great option if you the space in your freezer, it’s just as good as fresh,” she says.
Gagnon says items like rice and oats often make up the core of many dishes, which makes it easy to mix-and-match and build meals upon.
She says it’s also prudent to batch-cook and to freeze meats so you can take them out as needed.
