The mayor of Saint Andrews is proud of how residents in his town have responded to the COVID-19 crisis.
Doug Naish said most people are following the physical distancing protocols.
“People are listening and following the necessary measures. Those who are so far unaffected by the illness seem to be stepping up to the place to help other people,” said Naish.
Naish says the town and the Kiwanis Club of Saint Andrews are working together to get essentials out to residents.
Anyone wishing to use the service must first place an order with the grocery store, pharmacy or hardware store and then contact the town at (506) 529-5120.
Naish says more than 50 people have volunteered to assist with the delivery of groceries, medications and hardware supplies.
He says Joey’s Independent Grocer has stepped up with increased hours to allow seniors to shop early without the crowds among other measures.
“Plexiglass at the checkouts and distancing lines on the floor and all of the things that people need to do,” Naish said.
Naish said if people aren’t getting the importance of doing these things, they are part of the problem.
He has changed his habit of daily grocery shopping to once a week.
