Ten additional cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in New Brunswick for a total of 91.
The chief medical officer of health says the Miramichi region now has its first case.
The new cases break down as follows:
- One individual aged 70-79 in Zone 2 (Saint John region)
- Three individuals aged 20-59 and three individuals aged 50-69 in Zone 3 (Fredericton region)
- Two individuals aged 70-79 in Zone 4 (Edmundston region)
- One individual aged 20-29 in Zone 7 (Miramichi region)
Of the 91 cases, 49 are travel-related, 25 are close contacts of confirmed cases, three cases are from community transmission and 14 cases remain under investigation.
Five people were hospitalized but two have since been discharged and of the three remaining in hospital, one is in the intensive care unit.
To date, 22 people have recovered from the virus.
Dr. Jennifer Russell is urging New Brunswickers to seek credible sources for information about the virus.
“Our GNB website, Public Health Agency of Canada, the World Health Organization… all of these places are very credible sources of information. So I would like people to avoid spreading rumours and other things on social media unnecessarily.”
Dr. Russell has confirmed five members of a community church have tested positive for the virus although she did not identify the location.
She adds this incident proves that public gatherings of any kind should be avoided.
