New Brunswick has extended its state of emergency declaration for another 14 days.
The all-party cabinet committee on COVID-19 and the cabinet have agreed to the extension which was originally issued on March 19.
The order will be reassessed after two weeks and will be extended as needed.
Premier Blaine Higgs says some are still not taking the emergency order seriously and there will be consequences.
“We need these people to understand that violating an order under the Emergency Measures Act is against the law and peace officers can lay charges. These fines can start at $292.50 and can go as high as $10,200.”
Higgs adds peace officers are now monitoring public areas such as parks and beaches to ensure everyone is following physical distancing guidelines and not gathering in groups.
He urges New Brunswickers to always report an incident if you see one and don’t get involved directly.
