The chief medical officer of health is urging New Brunswickers not to become complacent even if few new cases of COVID-19 are being reported.
Dr. Jennifer Russell has confirmed two new cases in the province – an individual in their 60s from the Fredericton region (Zone 3) and someone in their 20s from the Edmundston region (Zone 4).
“One case is travel-related and the other one is a contact of a case. This brings our total to 70 cases overall.”
She points out that three cases of the virus are believed to be community transmissions which means no known connections to travel.
In a breakdown of the cases, Dr. Russell notes how 42 have been related to travel outside New Brunswick, 19 have been close contacts of travel and six are still under investigation.
In some good news, Dr. Russell adds nine people who had COVID-19 have now recovered.
One person remains in hospital.
Dr. Russell says few details are being released about individual cases to protect privacy.
She adds in a small community, providing more information could identify a person which is why public health has been careful about protecting confidentiality.
