New Brunswick health officials have provided more details about their testing for the COVID-19 virus.
Dr. Jennifer Russell and senior health department staff held a technical briefing with media on Monday.
More than 3,200 tests have been completed, with most being done on residents in the Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John regions.
Officials said those areas saw the first COVID-19 cases, which drove a lot of “exponential testing” due to contact tracing.
- Zone 1 (Moncton region): 1,005 tests, 17 confirmed cases
- Zone 2 (Saint John region): 460 tests, 18 confirmed cases
- Zone 3 (Fredericton region): 586 tests, 22 confirmed cases
- Zone 4 (Edmundston region): 182 tests, 4 confirmed cases
- Zone 5 (Campbellton region): 65 tests, 7 confirmed cases
- Zone 6 (Bathurst region): 238 tests, 0 confirmed cases
- Zone 7 (Miramichi region): 121 tests, 0 confirmed cases
The province said it does not know where the remaining 577 tests came from, either due to illegible postal codes or not knowing where the person lived.
Officials also released more details surrounding the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Brunswick.
According to new numbers, nearly one-in-five of the confirmed cases involve people in their 20s.
People in their 50s account for a similar number of cases to date, and so do those in their 60s.
Below is a breakdown of the 68 cases which were confirmed as of Monday:
- Under 10: 5.9 per cent
- 10 to 19: 2.9 per cent
- 20 to 29: 19.1 per cent
- 30 to 39: 14.7 per cent
- 40 to 49: 10.3 per cent
- 50 to 59: 19.1 per cent
- 60 to 69: 19.1 per cent
- 70 to 79: 8.8 per cent
Two people have been hospitalized to date, and one has since been released. No patients have been admitted to the ICU or placed on ventilators.
Officials said as of Sunday, five per cent of the total cases were linked to community transmission, while several others were still under investigation.
