There are assurances from the country’s minister of defence the military will be there to help in the COVID-19 crisis.
Harjit Sajjan notes there are three top priorities for the Canadian Armed Forces.
He promises will be there when necessary to help slow the spread of the virus, provide support to vulnerable communities, and help for the provinces.
Sajjan also notes there will be up to 24,000 regular and reserve force members that will be able to mobilize and the army has 10 regular force units on the ready.
The national defence minister adds, “I also want to stress that this response to COVID-19 would occur while still maintaining our ability to respond to possible floodings or forest fires.”
