Two Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Greater Saint John had to close this weekend after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
The company sent an email to customers of the Lansdowne Avenue location and the Quispamsis location Sunday evening.
“We are writing to inform you that one of the team members from the Shoppers Drug Mart Quispamsis location has tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19,” read one of the emails, which was shared on social media.
A spokesperson for Loblaw, the parent company of Shoppers Drug Mart, confirmed the details contained in the email.
Catherine Thomas said the stores were closed for a thorough cleaning and were expected to reopen Monday morning.
“We are in contact with the local public health team and have taken a number of steps to minimize risk, including increased sanitization protocols and enforcing social distancing practices in the store,” said Thomas in an email.
Employees who worked closely with the individual at both stores are now at home in self-isolation and monitoring for any symptoms, said Thomas.
“We have sent an email to our customers through PC Optimum to let them know, and to detail out the steps we’re taking,” said Thomas.
