Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is telling laid-off workers that help is on its way.
Trudeau announced they are creating a new program called the Canada Emergency Response Benefit and that an application portal is being launched as quickly as possible.
“People should start to receive the money within 10 days of applying. I know people are concerned about delays and families are concerned about when they’ll be able to get help. It can be hard to get through on the line and it is frustrating. Public servants are working around the clock while dealing with unprecedented demand,” Trudeau said.
The newly merged fund will provide people who are not receiving a paycheque during the pandemic with $2,000 each month for up to four months.
Trudeau says as the COVID-19 pandemic continues they will continue to offer new programs to help Canadians during these trying times.
