Amid the ever-changing landscape of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have decided to reevaluate the East Coast Games in June. With the news about the Canadian Olympic Committee deciding to not send Canadian teams to the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer, and their ultimate postponement today, we had to make a decision on holding the games this year. At this time, given the circumstances we have made the decision to cancel the 2020 East Coast Games in Saint John.
This was not an easy decision but our number one priority is the health and safety of all those involved with the games including athletes, spectators, volunteers, and organizers. Social distancing will be recommended for the coming months, meaning It would be very difficult to put on our event with so many athletes and spectators. The East Coast Games Board of Directors pride ourselves and our tournament directors on delivering a high-quality event that has become Atlantic Canada’s largest annual multi-sport tournament. Planning capabilities of our organizers have been lowered by distancing and we will not have the opportunity to provide you with the best quality event we can for 2020.
Remember to stay informed and react appropriately to all of the recommendations given to us by our government and health care professionals. The more we practice social distancing and washing our hands, the sooner this will all be over.
All the best,
Your East Coast Games Board of Directors
