A local business organization is applauding new federal measures to help address the impacts of COVID-19.
But the Saint John Chamber of Commerce is urging the government to act quickly to ensure the cash flows within the timeline.
On Wednesday, the federal government announced a $27 billion relief package to help both individuals and businesses.
The chamber said now is the time businesses need these funds the most and they hope red tape will not create further burdens.
“Business, particularly small business, cannot wait. Cash flow and debt management are immediate challenges for business. As distance interaction becomes the norm, retail, hospitality and sectors that rely on personal interactions will be in difficult situations,” said David Duplisea, CEO of the Chamber.
Residents can support local businesses by purchasing gift cards, and using take out and online orders.
“This will be a challenging time for everyone. We need to help one another out and support our neighbours, friends, and fellow businesses. the economy needs to keep going,” said Duplisea.
