Saint John Transit is suspending fare collection on all routes as of Thursday amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement, the city said the change is meant to keep passengers and employees safe and “are not intended to encourage increased use of transit services.”
Passengers will be asked to use the rear doors when boarding and exiting, though the front door will continue to be used for those with disabilities or mobility issues.
Parking enforcement has also been suspended after the city transitioned to an “essential services only” delivery model.
“As we all have a role to play in the response to COVID-19, we ask that all motorists continue to respect our Parking By-laws,” said the city in a news release.
