In order to protect the vulnerable senior population, nursing homes are restricting access to their clients in their homes.
Loch Lomond Villa in Saint John imposed a visitor restriction on Sunday.
CEO Cindy Donovan says they began preparing for this in early March with recruitment efforts in case staff need to be off to ensure they have enough staff on site.
“We don’t have any COVID-19 in the building but, it’s our responsibility to make sure we keep it out and do our part. We’ve actually closed the home to all visitors. I know that stresses people. I know people get angry with us when we do that when they can’t come in to visit,” Donovan said.
Family members who are designated as next-of-kin can call (506) 643-7175 and use the directory to check in on their loved ones.
Loch Lomond Villa has 119 residents between its original facility and the Village located across the street.
Between the two nursing homes, the apartment complex and other facilities, Loch Lomond Villa employs 340 people.
245 seniors live in the apartment complex where Donovan said signs are posted encouraging people to wash their hands and to stay away if they are sick.
“I am just hoping people will understand this is about the safety and wellbeing of our seniors. Loch Lomond Villa is doing everything we can to keep them safe,” Donovan said.
The visitor restriction will remain in place until further notice.
