A few years ago, the Greater Moncton Down Syndrome Society put out a call for stories and letters to celebrate.
They were overwhelmed with submissions, and you can now find them all in one book.
“An Extra Dash of Love, Letters Celebrating Down Syndrome” hasn’t officially been released to the public yet.
But when it is, spokesperson Sandra Blatt-Arsenault says it will warm your heart and change your perspective.
“We wanted to create a collection of love letters and wonderful stories, poems, art, so we can tell the true story of what it means today in 2020 to have Down Syndrome,” she says.
Chocolate River Publishing put the 96-page book together.
“We have lots of letters from the United States, across Canada, Mexico and France. Our local schools also got on board with it. We have 178 pieces of artwork. So it’s not just a book full of words,” Blatt-Arsenault says.
The letters, poems and other pieces of literature were received from parents, grandparents, coaches, teachers and classmates.
“It’s about feeling good, reading heartwarming stories and about teaching new perspectives. Looking inside someone’s life, just a little snippet of how great it can be. It really is a celebration. It will change you,” Blatt-Arsenault says.
The book will first be available during Opportunity Knocks on March 21.
It will also be on sale at Tidewater Books in Sackville, Westminster Books in Fredericton, Cover to Cover in Riverview and Chapters in Moncton.
