A school in the Kennebecasis Valley is hoping to give its library a little TLC.
The library at Quispamsis Elementary School hasn’t seen many upgrades since the school opened in 1961.
Kristine Young is a parent of students who attend the school, fundraising chair of its home and school association and a former student.
“It basically looks almost the same, I think it was painted at some point. Right now when you go in, it’s basically just shelves and books and the shelves are quite high. We are looking to get some new shelving, so the students have better access to the books,” said Young.
The goal is to raise $25,000 for the library improvements through a variety of fundraisers.
“The home and school [association] has already donated $5,000 which we had raised in previous fundraisers. The goal of this fundraiser is to raise another $5,000 and then continue it next year and possibly the year after,” Young said.
She says the auction items range from gift certificates to registration fees for kids’ day camps and more higher-end items.
“We have a two-night stay from the Ridgeback Lodge in Kingston, it’s in the dream dome. We have a generator that was donated, we have a two-night stay in a boathouse in St. Margaret’s Bay, Nova Scotia,” Young said.
The QES online auction fundraiser on Facebook starts on Saturday and continues until March 22.
