A survey shows 91 percent of Canadians plan to go shopping this weekend to take advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.
Field Agent Canada says the annual shopping extravaganza continues to grow and has changed the way Canadians shop for Christmas.
Spokesperson Jeff Doucette says retailers both big and small are embracing what had been an American kickoff to the holiday season.
“You see a lot of companies who are not even really retailers… I saw a training company the other day offering a Black Friday deal. So it’s even transcended shopping for traditional retail goods. A lot of companies are just using it as a way to drive sales at the end of the year,” he notes.
Doucette says Canadian retailers would previously wait to offer big sales after Christmas on Boxing Day.
He adds retailers here began to realize they were at a disadvantage especially with the growth of online sales.
The nearly 1700 shoppers surveyed earlier this week said they plan to spend about $377 on items such as clothing, electronics and household goods.
