It appears saving Thunder Bay’s Bombardier plant and fighting climate change go together in the mind of the federal NDP leader.
Hundreds of people waited to hear Jagmeet Singh speak at Lakehead University tonight, where he proposed investing heavily in mass public transit.
“And what that will do is create jobs for Bombardier, a Canadian producer of some of the best LRT’s, light rail vehicles, that run in cities, that can be run by electricity, that can change the impact that we have.”
The NDP leader added Canadian companies should be contracted for work in this country, and not foreign investment which what’s happened before.
He’s also looking at a plan to stop people from leaving Northern Ontario and make it grow again.
Singh pointed out it’s all about investing in people, especially immigrants.
“We’ve got plans to make sure we make investments in the north, the Northland Express is something that was taken away, that lost connectivity, that made it harder for people in the north.”
The federal party leader added in a country as rich as Canada, he’ll accept no excuse for boil water advisories at First Nation Communities.
At the mention of the East-West Tie Line project, he spoke of investing $3-billion to connect clean energy projects from BC, to Manitoba, and Quebec, right across the country.
After a raucous rock star welcome, the NDP leader spent a few minutes discussing how he wants the rich to pay more, as well as pharma care for all.
