Day 21 of the federal election campaign and the Conservatives are promising to cut foreign aid spending by 25 percent.
Leader Andrew Scheer explains the reduction will come from middle and upper-income countries as well as hostile regimes.
He adds the idea is to “prioritize” foreign aid so it goes to the countries that most need it.
Also on the campaign trail, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh promised to make employment insurance benefits for parental leave more flexible.
Singh says they want to give parents the option of taking a shorter leave time but increasing their benefits.
The Green Party’s Elizabeth May promised free post-secondary education, noting other countries have free university tuition, so should Canada.
Liberal leader Justin Trudeau announced he will bring in a ban on military-style assault weapons and will allow municipalities to decide if they want to restrict or ban handguns.
