On Day 13 of the federal election campaign, the Conservatives are promising a plan to put homeownership in the reach of more Canadians.
Leader Andrew Scheer says it includes modifying the mortgage stress test and increasing the maximum length of time to pay back a mortgage to 30 years.
Scheer explains “longer amortization periods mean lower mortgage payments, and put the money saved into student debt, monthly bills, and retirement.”
The Conservative’s four-point plan also includes launching an inquiry into money laundering in the real estate sector and making the surplus federal real estate available for development to increase the supply of housing.
Elsewhere on the election trail today, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh unveiled a new candidate in New Brunswick and repeated some promises on dental care and pharmacare, while Liberal leader Justin Trudeau announced his own health care plan.
Trudeau is pledging to help those with mental health problems find the services they need when they need it.
He points outs “there are people dying… because they don’t live close enough to a hospital or are on a waitlist to receive treatment.”
