Power crews from New Brunswick are lending a helping hand to their colleagues in Nova Scotia.
Thousands of homes and businesses remain without power after post-tropical storm Dorian ripped through the region last weekend.
Marc Belliveau, a spokesperson for NB Power, said they sent 34 crews to Nova Scotia on Thursday.
“They were triaged in the Truro area to where they’re gonna go. They’re gonna be spending most of their efforts restoring power in Shelburne, Liverpool and Bridgewater.”
Belliveau said 32 contractor crews from New Brunswick are also helping out.
There are national agreements in place between utilities to help one another during major events, he said.
“We’ve seen it here in New Brunswick, obviously, with some of the bigger storms we’ve had,” Belliveau said. “The ice storm comes to mind certainly where crews from other jurisdictions will come here.”

As for why New Brunswick did not offer any help until Thursday, Belliveau said they wanted to ensure all of their customers were reconnected to the grid first.
“There’s no doubt about it that you have to look after your own customers first,” he said. “We’re very, very careful about spreading out crews out into different areas to make sure that they can, in fact, get there and help out.”
More than 80,000 NB Power customers were impacted at the peak of the storm. Belliveau said the final customers were reconnected Thursday.
