Police in Saint John have issued a warning about a high-risk sex offender living in the community.
Christopher Michael Watts, 59, has served federal prison time for manslaughter, sexual interference and sexual assault.
Police said Watts, who has been deemed a high risk to re-offend sexually, is being “closely supervised” in the community.
Watts is bound by a long-term supervision order with several conditions, which include:
- not to consume, purchase or possess alcohol or illegal drugs
- not to own, use or possess a computer or any device that would allow access to the internet
- not to be in the presence of any female children under the age of 18 unless supervised
“This information is provided to alert members of the public of his presence in our community,” said the Saint John Police Force in a news release. “Any form of vigilante activity or other unreasonable conduct will not be tolerated.”
Halifax Regional Police (HRP) issued a similar warning in Aug. 2017 after Watts completed his sentence at a federal correctional facility and was living in the Nova Scotia capital.
In a public advisory dated Aug. 8, 2017, HRP said they believed “compelling circumstances” existed to warn the public about Watts.
“He has exhibited a pattern of providing large quantities of drugs to young girls and engaging in sexual activity with them without regard for their ability to consent,” they said.
Watts is described as 6’0″ tall, weighing 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone who sees Watts violating any of his conditions is asked to call the Saint John Police Force at 506-648-3333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
