Hundreds of people will take to the streets of uptown Saint John on Saturday night for the annual Pride parade.
It will leave King Square North at 8:45 p.m., travel down King Street and end with a community gathering on the Market Square Boardwalk.
Michael Cummings, president of Saint John Pride, said they tried a night parade for the first time last year and it was a success.
“It was very successful, not only for the attendees that normally perhaps work in the daytime that typically can’t come in the day, but also just to celebrate with light and with glowsticks,” said Cummings.
Cummings said Saint John is the only community in Atlantic Canada, and possibly Canada, which has an evening Pride parade. This year’s parade marshal is Ada McKim, a teacher at Saint John High School.
“Ada has always been an advocate and an ally for LGBTQ+ individuals, advocating for books in the library and GSA and a safe space for all the students.”
